Det trevligaste sättet att upptäcka en grekisk ö är att resa runt på egen hand med bil, moped eller cykel. Det är en härlig frihetskänsla att själv bestämma vad man ska se och var man ska stanna. Man stiger upp tidigt på morgonen, packar ryggsäcken, köper en karta, hyr ett fordon och ger sig iväg. Dagen är din, bara din. Mina favoritöar när det gäller att köra runt på egen hand är Amorgos, Karpathos, Kreta, Sifnos och Skopelos.

Att hyra bil är precis lika enkelt som hemma. Biluthyrare finns på nästan alla grekiska öar, och självklart även på grekiska fastlandet. Det är bara de absolut minsta öarna som saknar biluthyrning. BUSS
Huvudbusstationen ligger i Zakynthos stad, därifrån utgår bussar till Aten och till de största turistorterna. Förbindelserna med Alykes, Tsilivi, Argassi, Kalamaki och Laganas är mycket bra med frekventa avgångar dagligen. Sämre bevänt är det med resten av byarna på ön som bara trafikeras ett par gånger om dagen.

GLASBOTTENBÅT
Jag skriver det motvilligt, men måste väl: vill du se (störa skulle jag vilja skriva) sköldpaddor utgår glasbottenbåtar från bland annat Laganas flera gånger om dagen. Turerna - som går under namnet "Turtle spotting" - går till Marathonisi, en liten ö utanför Laganas. Du sparar mycket pengar om du köper vykort med sköldpaddor i stället, och du slipper störa dem.
