ARCHITECTURE: VITRUVIUS&#;S &#;De Architectura,&#;
&#;De Architectura&#;&#; Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, ed. by Gulielm Philander. In Latin.
edition. Rebounded ca. late 19th century.

De Architectuva  (pictured above) is the architectural treaties written by Roman architect, Marcus Vitruvius Pollio in approximately 27 B.C. Vitruvius was a Roman, but the 10 volumes of his treaties on architecture are largely based on the Greek model. His thoughts on architecture are predominately geared toward the Hellenistic period of Greek art ( &#; 30 BC) , but Vitruvius provides the reader with insight to all areas of Greek architecture, from temple construction, private dwellings,  to interior design and  decoration.  Given that many Greek buildings have been lost to both natural wear and destruction due to warfare, Vitruvious&#; written works piece together many of the gaps not documented by Greek architects- although there are still plenty of gaps for historians to attempt to fill.

As with architecture today, the style and planning of Greek temples, cities, etc., was largely based off of the materials available and the practiced technology of the time. In this post we&#;ll first look at

While visiting Greece, you may notice that the homes look completely different. In the United States, homes are made with unique materials and have a different appearance.  In fact, the homes in Greece appear to be made of stone, and although there might be some slight regional differences in how they look, their methods of construction are similar to one another.

One of the most striking features about these homes is that they seem to blend in well with the landscape. Whether gazing on the houses in a mountainside village or those perched on a cliff on one of the Greek islands, you can&#;t help but feel as if the homes somehow belong where they stand. This is done on purpose, as the homes are designed to flow naturally with the environment.

Here is some more information about the unique way that Greek homes are constructed:

Brief History of Stone Construction in Greece

Building homes using stone is not a new concept in modern Greece. This is a practice that has been followed since ancient times. The Ancient Greeks quickly learned that stone is reliable, sturdy, and long lasting. It was also readily available. Many structures that have survived from Ancient Greece today wer

Vill du bygga ditt drömhus i Grekland?

&#;The culture and history of an area play a major role in defining the local architecture. More often than not, the past ways of life influenced the layout of homes as well as the materials used, sizes of openings and construction details. Our way of living has changed dramatically but I believe that there is still much to be learned from the past. In my eyes, the goal is to achieve a balance between the past and present, providing for today’s needs while celebrating

Grekisk arkitektur Ursprung, egenskaper, stilar, konstruktioner

Det omfattar allt arkitektoniskt arbete skapat sedan a.
